Now, I'm not a war kind of person

Now, I'm not a war kind of person. My friend Ben who I work with, is really into 'the soldier experience' cos he's interested in reading about what it is like to be that man in a trench, dodging his bullet. I can kind of see that. It takes off a few layers, and exposes the shivering soul of a man...

So I can appreciate that, but it's not my thing. It's just a sad, harrowing piece of hell that some humans inflicted on other humans, for me. BUT!....

Tonight I watched the Timewatch piece on the tank, which was a secretly developed weapon in WW1. Imagine: in some field in France, some lonely men are slowly advancing on the Germans, when they hear 'a purring kind of sound'. I can scarcely even begin to imagine what it must have felt like, to see these strange objects advancing towards me on a misty morning, as I slowly creep closer to my apparently certain doom, and to discover that they are what seems to be impenetrable shells, containing my allies, overtaking my path and heading on into the dark fog ahead where my enemy is sitting.

All power to Ben, I say, who, on a slightly more trivial note, has an intermittent (dependent upon his ISP) webcam.
